Day 1

You will have examined the theory using Freediver Touch and completed the associated knowledge reviews before the course begins. We will recap with some Q&A before starting the practical breathing session.

Then it’s off to the pool (or confined water) where we practice the safety and rescue skills before warming up for STA (Static Apnea). During this session you will experience the urge to breath and learn about contractions whilst attempting a time of at least 90 seconds. Following STA we introduce DYN (Dynamic Apnea) and how to correctly buddy a diver as well as the rescue and safety skills. You will aim to achieve at least 25m in DYN.

A quick dive in the ocean after lunch will help to familiarize yourself with pressure and equalizing whilst enjoying the sights in Carlisle Bay.

Day 2

In today’s first open water session we will be doing CWT (Constant Weight) dives to 10m focusing on correct buddy procedures and ensuring removal of snorkel before diving as well as safe surfacing practices. During this session we will also cover LMC (Loss of Motor Control) rescues whilst at the surface.

Open water session two develops the skills learnt to improve your overall technique from start to finish; breathing, duck diving, descent, equalisation, efficient kicking, turning and safe surfacing. You will also learn how to rescue a BO’d (Blacked Out) diver from 5m including the ‘Blow, Tap, Talk’ procedure at the surface.

Our open water sessions end with a fun freedive exploring the reef/wrecks as well as other local features at the dive site. You will be able to apply correct buddy procedure and be comfortable freediving with your new skills.

Requirements and Costs

To enroll in our PADI Freediver course you must be 15yrs or older and able to swim 200m unassisted (or 300m with mask/fins). All courses are conducted with no more than 4 students to ensure the highest levels and safety and education quality.

What’s included: pool fees, certification costs, transport (in most cases), water and all equipment (contact us for sizing info). We are based on the South coast of Barbados so transportation can usually be provided but please contact us if you have any questions. We provide low volume freediving masks and long blade fins during our courses but wetsuits/swimming clothes should be an individual choice – we advise you to bring your own wetsuit for a better fit.

What you will need to bring: lunch on both days or we can stop along the way, a towel and sunscreen.

We have shifted our focus to the AIDA 1&2* course, for more information please see this page.
